What Happened to Imagination {Revision}

Before consciousness comes imagination,

before words or dialogue or memories there’s just a body with a developing mind

trying to replicate what it sees.

Then their is our euphoric fantasies,

of princesses, wizards and fairies. Unicorns running free through the endless pastures

of our imagination. Magic weaving its way from mind to mind providing you with

dreams instead of nightmares.

But we’re not rewarded or encouraged for our imagination.

Imaginary friends and fairies don’t pay bills and no one has the strength to challenge

a system so our imagination dies before our puberty ends because imaginary food leaves

you hungry.

So the flying broom that you used to love so dear,

Ascended into the starry purple night sky that you can no longer see. At times your

neck moves for your eyes to have a peek at the stars hoping your broom will descend.

Yet imagination doesn’t die, we believe in Gods and karma and love.

We pray for life and wealth and forgiveness. We see and hear our loved ones when

they aren’t around. We have superstitions and conspiracy theories that don’t make sense.

We have racism too. We have stereotypes and prejudice and ego and desires. We have

cruelty and starvation. Our imagination creates systems that only benefit the few.

What happened to our imagination that gave us happiness instead of tears?
