you are desperate for attention like a baby craving

like a puppy that wants to play,

like a kid repeatedly calling someone’s name to see

them do something they do everyday.

it’s embarrassing to admit that i was crying over

people that acted like children in a candy shop

whenever they received the slightest bit of attention.

my words wrapped around you like the sunshine

providing you with warmth, like a blanket when you’re

going to bed.

comfort and familiarity is what you found in me,

empty words, fake promises, and lies are what you

resided in me.

you wouldn’t be able to handle me even if i gifted you

a “sydney” handbook with written notes on the side.

but i know that now, but back then when i was in my room

flowery words because i would rather believe that
